    Hi,
I have a lovely large birch tree... maybe paper birch?... the main trunk of which has split into two. From one of these "trunks" there are a couple of large branches that overhang a flowerbed and look like they might split off in bad weather. I'd like to prune these branches but have read a lot of scary stuff! I'd love to know if I can, when I should, and how to do it. Any help would be really appreciated!

Have a qualified party - perhaps an ISA certified arborist for instance - look at it.

Thanks... good advice. I'm short of funds and so always hope these things are things that my garden guy can do, but I probably need a really good opinion from someone who really knows about birches.
