We have a fairly tall (2.5-3 metres) cypress hedge that goes all around our Vancouver yard. The icy snowfalls we had this winter have caused a great many of the branches to bend down and stick out all over the place. Most are not actually broken, just bent. I am wondering whether these bent branches should be pruned off, or whether with time, thye will grow to be upright again?

If bent too much may stay bent.

I have a soft scaled upright Juniper and the first winter planted I wrapped the branches with jute to prevent the snow from weighing them down, well the jute did not work and the branches were what I could discribe to be in the same condition as yours. I would recommend knocking off the snow and leaving the ice for insulation. Mine came back just fine, I would wait and see in the spring if it bounces back for you like my Juniper did. Janet
