In referring to Michael Dirr and Charles Heuser Reference of Woody Plant Propagation:

Propagation by seed: collect berries in October and remove the fleshy pulp (be careful not to damage the seed coat). Place seed in a slightly moistened medium (sand, sphagnum moss, peat moss or soil) in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 2 to 6 months. Because you are in Toronto, you may want to wait until March or even April to sow the seeds. Then you can plant your seedlings when the weather becomes favourable.

Cuttings: For the highest success rate, take softwood cuttings in May or June. Use 8000 parts per million IBA-talc rooting hormone with a one to one ratio of sand to peat for a rooting medium. Choose cuttings that do not have tendrils.
