    Hello -

My son gave me two walnuts that fell from the tree about a month ago. They have been inside since. The outside has turned black. Can I still have success with these seeds?

Do I plant the whole walnut as it fell from the tree or open it up and get the seed for planting alone?

    Thanks!!

If they've been inside for a month, they've probably dried out too much for success. Also nuts that fell a month ago would probably be aborted duds anyway, that's too early in the year for good nuts to be dropping.

Doesn't matter whether the husk is left on or not - if you get any more, you could just bury them as they are, and put some chicken wire over the top to stop squirrels digging them out.
