I am told that most Crassula leaves will strike if left lying on the surface of a suitable mix. Would hormone powder help if the cut was fresh and had not been allowed to develop a scab? Also, when it the best time to do this and would a warm propagator speed things up?

i've always allowed leaves to scab over for a couple of days before putting them in (or just on) the soil. i've had very good luck with grapto types. crassula types have not rooted for me. i've not used rooting hormone tho - might try it again now that i have some of that. never thought to use a heat mat. i don't know if it'll be helpful or not.

Strange you should mention that. Everyone tells me that the Crassula Jade plant leaves will propagate without any trouble, but I have never managed to get even one to do so. In fact, they always rotted. Perhaps that's because I stuck them into the mix too soon without letting them develop a hard scab.
