My meyer lemon tree is inside for the winter (I live on northern SC) and is full of blooms, but the blooms have developed little things all over them that are the size of poppy seeds. They never appear to be moving. if I take some off in my hand and rub them, they look greenish/brown. Are these eggs of something? Are they bad? How do I get rid of them? I had the tree for one year and got 23 lemons.....this past summer was my second, and I got lots of blooms, but no lemons.....I get them, they grow to the size of peas and then get yellow and fall off. What am I doing wrong.....finally got this last blooming, and now covered with these littls dots.
Usually, flat and brownish colored dots on citrus trees that never move, are an insect called scale, which is a very common problem on citrus. Scale is normally found on the bark and over the leaves, but especially along the center rib. I have never personally seen scale on the petals of a citrus bloom. I have many times seen a variety of very small black aphid infesting citrus blooms. Concerning, your tree not producing a crop, what fertilizer program have you been giving your Meyer lemon? - Millet
If you have not received a reply, it sounds like a type of aphid on your flowers. Wash the plant with water infused with a couple of drops of kitchen soap like Dawn or Ivory. Run it or spray it on the blooms. This will look ugly but should kill them if you cannot remove them all by hand...and I would say that is impossible based on the size of the blooms.
