Hi, I have a cherry blossom variant tree. It used to flower properly till bout 2 years back. Last year, the tree had leaves before it started flowers. I also noticed white deposits on the trunk and leaves (pic attached) and leaves are also strangely garbled (pic below) would anyone be able to help me with this - I had fed the tree organic fertilizer when I fertilize the rest of my garden plants but nothing beyond that. Any clue ?
Can you show a photo of the tree and of the trunk? How old is this tree? It may be that it's at the end of its normal life.
The tree is about 15 years old. Attached are pics of the tree and the trunk with the white deposit. Lemme know if it is not clear and I can take n send more shots
For best results show closer views of the white things. And more views of the shoot blighting. Also give more background on the tree, like how long you have had it and what the details of the growing site are - in the blighting photo it looks like it is in a container on a deck or rooftop.
Do these pics help ? Also tried to do a close up video of the blighting I have been taking care of the tree for 5 years now. Yes it is on my terrace garden and the soil where the tree grows is 2 ft deep. I get no sun whatsoever but lots of light (buildings all around)
Moving views are hard to follow when trying to look at plants. And you have to get in close for relevant details to become discernible. That said, this might be what the white stuff is. Eriosomatinae - Wikipedia
Tried one more time - the white on the tree just looks like it is smeared all over, a powdery stuff. If I sprayed water, that kinda dissipates it but it comes back after a while. The white on the leaves that drop is more like spores - hopefully this time it is visible on the pic clearly. Else maybe I will need to do with with a dslr camera
I have seen a few photos lately of leaves with a very similar deposit - said to be cottony scale. I have no experience with it but it may be something you could look into.
Well, the question seems to be: is whatever is on the leaves causing the tree to not flower, or, would it be as I've been told, that cherries need good light, and also good root space, and a potted balcony cherry tree can only put up with those conditions for so long?
