We have one male kiwi vine and four females, all of which are approximately 25 years old. The females are all looking good and producing well. The male, however, is getting a lot of yellowed leaves, especially on top of the arbor and its trunks (3) are covered with lichens, more so than the females. At first we thought it might be sunscald but none of the females are exhibiting the same symptons. We fertilized after flowering and cut away dead wood but the plant still doesn't appear to be happy. There are some young shoots growing from one of the main trunks -- should we concentrate on encouraging these and cut away the remaining trunks when the plant becomes dormant? Any other ideas?
    Thanks so much. Jane Cooper
