I live in Southern Ca. where the temperature gets over 100*. I just bought a princess plant and it is full of buds getting ready to bloom. It is in the hot sun for about 6 hours daily right now. The leaves are starting to curl and the buds have not opened yet.(it's been a week) Is this plant used to extreme hot weather? Perhaps it is getting sunburned?

It tolerates tropical heat quite well. What was the environment where you bought it? You wouldn't want to immediately thrust it into something an order of magnitude hotter and sunnier. Maybe provide some temporary and partial shade to see if it will recover?

I've used lawn chairs, lattice, pruned leafy branches, and even little windbreaks of fabric stretched between two plant stakes to shelter new plants until they acclimate.

I have a beach umbrella that I'll try. Thank you.
