I got handed a work yesterday a prickly pear (Opuntia) not sure what variety specific.
It seems to look dehydrated or something. All the pads have wrinkles appearing on them.
What can I do to help this sorry soul?

If potting medium dry then water it.

That was my first thought, but it was moist, and said that they had been watering it.

If damp all the way through for some time then may instead be rotting. Unpot and air out for a few days, if not too much gone to soft rot then repot in fresh medium (after cutting away rotten parts and allowing these to air and firm up).

How often have they watered it? (root rott?) It might be worth putting on some gloves and checking the roots, but wait and see if it puffs up again first. Or sometimes people water cacti once/twice a year and think that that is "watering it".
