I'm back for one more ID please! I actually find this plant most photogenic! I cannot find this in my wildflower book because.....no "flower" colour! ;> Thanks for your help, Andrea
It's a member of the Asteraceae (or sunflower family), but beyond that, quite tricky. My guess is that it is a species in the genus Symphyotrichum (NB: members of this genus typically appear in guide books and web sites as the genus Aster). How difficult would it be to get a close up photograph of a leaf (including the petiole)?
No flower colour, because what you are seeing are the seeds, so it's finished flowering. When did you take the photos, and where? That would help to determine when they were flowering, and narrow down the species. Native Asters around this area tend to bloom late summer to fall.
The first 2 pictures were taken September 24, 2008 and the last one was taken October 25, 2009. They were taken in the North Battleford, Saskatchewan area. These are the last of my "unknown" plants. The pictures were taken before I joined this forum. I now KNOW that I need to take pictures of the WHOLE plant. I will be returning to the places that I took these pictures and will hopefully be able to take new, more detailed photos of the plants in question. Thanks for your responses and "patience" with me! Andrea
