This is a photo of a leaf taken in Westhampton Beach, New York by a blogging friend. Can anyone shed light on a possible ID?

    Thanks....

Sure looks like some kind of Aesculus, the buckeyes and Horse Chestnuts.

E.g. it could be Aesculus hippocastanum, with the leaves curling up a bit from lack of water, or some other stress.

The opposite veins and pointy tips that protrude beyond the leaf curvature look quite similar, and both are pinnately compound with 7 leaflets. Some Aesculus seem to have less. I haven't checked on zone compatibility with NY. I'll leave that up to you.
