I have bought 6 of these bulbs and want to plant them in 2 shallow wooden plant trough containers for the windowsill. Do I need to use compost specially for bulbs or can I use ordinary compost suitable for hanging baskets etc?

You can probably get away with the regular compost you use for hanging baskets; what you need to be sure of is that whatever you use drains well. If not, the bulbs run the risk of rotting.
