    Hi Everyone,

We are looking to purchase and plant some Yews (Taxus) for our hedge. After calling around it seems like everyone thinks their Yews are the best. LOL.

The big difference we see are some are potted (1gal, 2gal, 3gal) and others are dirt grown. What we are trying to figure out is there an advantage/disadvantage to either of these methods when going purchasing and (re)planting?

Also, one place we called about dirt grown said he would take them out ... but would not put anything around the root ball. He said this would be fine as long as they were replanted same day or within 1-2 days. Thoughts on this?

We are just trying to be knowledgeable about what will give our hedge the best opportunity to grow.

    Thanks in advance.

With yew the main thing is that the planting site have good drainage at all times.

    Thanks Ron.

We recently had some new power poles installed on our property and when they used the auger to put them down 6 feet - they basically said we had "top soil" the whole way down ... so very little clay. Hopefully that will really help with the drainage.
