    Hi All!

I just got home with a free 6 potted chrysanthemum that I scored from a wedding. Its very nice (burgundy with white tips). Other than pulling all of the paper and ribbons off if it I havent done a thing yet. I has been pulled from greenhouse-heaven and now what do I do with it? I dont know the first thing about this flower, so how do I convert this into an established container plant?

    Thank you,
    Michael

Sorry every one. I was tired when I wrote that: I’m a little embarrassed. It obviously IS a container plant. What I meant to ask was how do I convert this into a happy plant for my patio? Is it too cold for it outside yet? Should I repot it? Those types of questions…

Most people just keep these as house plants until they waste away and I wanted to hear from someone who has kept one alive successfully.

Thanks Newt. It seems pretty happy out on my patio right now. It is still in full bloom from the wedding I got it at. Once all of those blooms from the greenhouse it was grown in have done their thing I'll see how the roots are doing and then decide whether to repot it.

Michael, you are so very welcome. Do keep in mind that the plant came from a greenhouse, so if the temps get cold at night, you might want to bring it in. Also, if you remove the spent blooms (deadhead or pinch off) you should get another flush of bloom.

Hi. Here's my experience with a potted Mum. Small plant 4 yrs ago, given to me in late summer. I cut of the flowers after blooming, and left the plant in the pot over winter, next to the house and wrapped in bubble wrap. The next spring I planted in a larger pot. It grew like crazy, and early in July I cut it down by 2/3rds and then just watered it when dry. It bloomed like crazy in late Sept. Same thing happened the following year, but last year, although it bloomed, the flowers were quite small. I shall now plant it into the garden and hopefully this fall will get some more flowers. I have never fertilized it, as I'm don't really know what to fertilizer to give it.

Not much info really, but hopefully you'll be able to glean something from the above.

P.S. I should say that each winter I place the pot close to the house, and wrap it in bubble wrap.

    Hi there
I have been growing one of those for about 4 years now outside in a pot very successfully. It blooms every November like a good little plant. I cut it back after the blooms stop coming almost to the base. Cut off all the stringy dead stuff. Then it greens up with tons of leaves all summer long. Come November tons of yellow blooms. It's getting time to repot it into a bigger pot. I really don't have another spot to put it in as it seems to need slight shade from our Tucson 110% weather all summer. So full sun won't do. Let me know how it goes for you!

Hi. My potted chrysanthemum survived the winter well. It's now about 4" tall, nice and green, and I think it will bloom again this fall. I'm not sure whether to repot it right now or not. I wonder if anyone has any advice in this regard?
