A friend of mine who lives in south florida, just gave me three clippings of his potato tree. Apparently they come from south america. They are about 3ft in length. I haven't been able to contact him to find out what to do with them. I fresh cut the bottom and placed them in about 2in of water. Can I just stick them in the dirt? Or is this a little more elaborate (growth hormones)?

    Potato Tree = Solanum macranthum?
I find most semi-woody tropicals root readily in the soil though hormones may help.
The trick for you will be maintaining HIGH humidity and warmth necessary to induce
rooting. Think sauna and you'll get the idea of the best conditions. Bright light will also
speed rooting so no North windows for these guys.
