i just purchased apinus parviflora and i'm wondering how long it can stay in a pot that is about 2.5 gallons. the tree is about 30" high.

Are you wondering in terms of years or weeks? I would think it can stay for this season at least, and if you water well might even make it two.

The way you can tell is by how fast the pot dries out, which you can tell by the weight (assuming it is a plastic nursery pot). If the plant is badly rootbound, it will dry out nearly every day. If it can go a couple of days without watering, the plant is probably not suffering too badly.

thank you karinL for your info. Even in this hot weather it takes a couple days to really dry out. I'll probably leave it in the pot this year because i haven't decided where to put it.I like the look of the bark and how it's contorted.Apparently it can be used in bonsai.
