A client brought in an unidentified landscape plant to our Master Gardener plant and insect clinic. We are pretty sure it's a delphinium. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!
Delphiniums do not produce leaves with an elongated central section in the manner of a fern. This looks like a mug-wort (Artemisia species) to me.
Does Artimesia have blue flower spikes? Didn't see any varieties when searching. Was thinking monkshood (aconitum), but I don't think that's right.
Artemisia lactiflora? I agree that it is Artemisia - the toothed leaves of Artemisia have a distinctive "tip" on each tooth. This plant has that characteristic.
Well, it looks like your plant is going to bloom soon, it will help with identification. By the way, your link doesn't work :'-(
That's what we told the client--Please bring it back in when it blooms so we can learn about it. I'll post it here when she does. Not sure why the link doesn't work--it does on my end. Here it is w/o being hyperlinked: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Delphinium+tricorne
