Last week I found this holey ball of red fungus growing in my back yard. There were flies all around it and it may have had a foul smell to it, but I didnt want to get too close just in case it wasnt a good fungus. Can anyone identify this? Is it something that I should be concerned about? I have never seen anything like this before in my life it was as if an alien life form had appeared in my garden! I have my fingers out to show the approximate size.

Okay, I actually answered my own question here: http://www.sky-bolt.com/Stinkhorns.htm It definitely did smell like a dead animal was in our back yard, I just wasn't sure it was coming from the fungus or not. Now I know and I sure hope it doesn't come back!
