Firstly, hello to you all and many thanks for the warm welcome on such a vast expanse of knowledge and experience on this forum.

My first question if you might help me comes from my mother.

She has a tree fern that stands alone in a big bucket, the tree fern measuring 6ft in height. Every year, the fonds grow and it grows taller...........except for this year.
She has done nothing different this year at all, insulating over the bad winter we had and feeding it when needed, but there is no growth at all so far this year, just brown on the top. Now my dad reakons it may have something to do with some Foxgloves that are self seeded right next to the tub in which the tree fern is planted.

I appreciate this is very vague but i will be very grateful if someone could give some advice on this matter please.

    Kind regards.........

Since there are several species referred to his tree fern is it possible you can post a photograph? If possible, show us a close-up of the fronds since that will help to make an ID. Generally, these plants are found in New Zealand in grow in shallow swamps. Sometimes growers keep them to dry in my experience that generally prevents growth. Most of the species do not like heat.

Surrey, England had a very long cold winter this year. The first time it has been this severe for many years. You say you insulated it, but I suspect that it was not enough. Was the big bucket also insulated? Maybe the roots froze.
