Something like this. This is my own mix that I am currently using for my indoor/outdoor cacti, succulents, caudiciforms, and pachycaul trees. Bonsai soil, perlite, orchid mix/bark chips, a small amount of potting soil (makes up about 10% of the mix), and I throw in some granular insecticide and fertilizer. You don't have to follow this exactly, as I really haven't found the exact percentages and ingredients to matter significantly. Basically, you want something that will retain a little moisture, but will drain freely. Granular mixes similar to this will allow the roots to breathe and take in moisture while reducing the chances of root rot. You can use vermiculite, crushed pumice, and large-grain sand (pool filter sand), as well. Everyone seeing this is going to have there own opinion on what material mix is best, but I believe if you follow these basic soil characteristics, you'll be fine. It's OK to experiment.
