Hi, my sister gave me a P lemon tree about 3-4 years ago. I immediately tried to kill it. All the leaves fell off, but came back when I moved it to a sunnier spot out on the front stoop. I've been doing that every summer as its one of the sunniest places in the house. When I brought it back inside last fall, I noticed little black spots on the underside of the leaves. I can't remember if I sprayed the plant with anything. The tree has been loosing leaves all winter. The leaves are sticky and sappy and seem to coat anything they touch. How can I help my tree?

It sounds like aphids, do you have any pictures?

No, but I can get some. It may be a while, since my husband has the digital camera in his car...

Well, in the mean time, you can spray the tree with mild soapy water-- a tablespoon of dishwashing liquid or so in a gallon. Soap will kill aphids and most other pest and is pretty much harmless.
