I thought I knew what this plant was until it suddenly got a large yellow bloom on it when the person that gave it to me told me it was a non-blooming bog plant. Any ideas on what plant this is?

Colocasia esculenta, by the leaves. They do bloom, just not often.

Beth is absolutely correct, and thanks Amy for the compliment.

Read this link and you'll learn about your plants. I have a large group that bloom every August but apparently they like the conditions in my atrium. This is one of the most variable of all aroids and takes on many "faces".

They commonly grow in water and in Hawaii and China are raised as a food crop and quite a few variations are grown in shallow water.
