Does anyone have experience with Polygonum ramosissimum? I just received a specimen, and subsequently keyed it to this species. However, I can't find an adequate description, or photo of the flower to confirm the ID. The specimen that I have has purple anthers, which doesn't feel right for this genus. However, the genus description in FNA says that this may be possible. Does anyone have good photos of a confirmed flower from this species? I will upload photos when I can go back to the site and gather a reasonable specimen.
Hey Thanks @tipularia. That is a good resource. I just got back with some specimens with mature achenes. It turns out that what I have is Polygonum douglasii ssp. majus Thanks everyone!
The USDA website can be very helpful. Using Polygonum for an example, go HERE and click on Subordinate Taxa to see what might be in your area.
That's a pretty, and underappreciated, plant. I always like to check them out closely when I encounter them.
I am feeling sure that the plant is question is P. douglasii, but here are my photos anyway. Better late than never.
Looks like it. Subspecies of P. douglassii are raised to species in FNA. So, it would be Polygonum majus, now.
