Here are two photos from this weeks trip to the Getty Center. The first is a group of sycamores that have been pollarded in order to keep an umbrella like shape when they leaf out over the picnic area. The second are the same trees (age/nursery/planting date), without the extreme pruning technique. In each case, the subject trees are planted in approximately 24 inches of soil, and the roots are cabled downward to insure stability.
