Hello this is my first post as a new member! This plant appeared in my garden in north east England in April this year. Now in July it is approx. 5ft 4in tall and 3-4ft wide. The leaves are around 8 inches long. I would love to know what it is. They say a picture paints a thousand words so please see attached images. The area that it has appeared in was mulched with home-made compost made from kitchen scraps, is it from an avocado stone? I have looked through all of the RHS books that I own and searched the internet to no avail. Please help if you can. Many thanks.

It's definitely not an Avocado! From the flower, it looks like Impatiens (AKA Jewelweed or Balsam) to me. I. glandulifera, Giant Jewelweed, is fairly similar.

Thanks so much lorax! I think you have correctly identified it, just googled it and am now wondering whether to pull it out as it can be very invasive - seems a shame though as it is a very interesting specimen, thanks again.
