Hi I recently found these 2 plants growing amongst my pepper plants. I accidentally rubbed my upper hand on the plant and received what initially felt like a "insect Sting" and it later turned into a "Water Blister". (Note this has happened twice by touching the same place twice (Accidentally). I would like to know if you could identify these plants to identify what plant type has caused this blistering. Note: I believe it is the first photo (heart shaped buds yellow green color) plant that caused the blistering. Thank you Ken Flack
The first photo shows the seed pods of a weed, shepherd's-purse, Capsella bursa-pastoris, or similar species. I'm not aware that they cause skin reaction to most people. The second plant is likely what caused the blistering - it appears to be stinging nettle, Urtica dioica, or another nettle species. Not poisonous but stinging hairs on the stem and leaves cause contact dermatitis.
The stinging nettle has wildlife value. The larvae of a variety of butterflies such as red admirals VAnessa atalanta and West Coast lady Vaness aannabella and Milberts' tortoiseshell Aglais milberti and satyr angel wing Polygonia satyrus feed on the leaves of stinging nettles.
Thank you to both contributors !... Absolutely right...... After 2 years seem to be pevalent in the area as it has shown up in our "Flower Pots" 2years in a row even though they are emptied cleaned and everything is replaced every year. Hardy plant.... Thank you. Sorry for the late reply...
