Hello. We bought one of the giant Pointsettia for Xmas at Costco. I lasted very nicely three month in the pot. We had them in our garden in JHB South Africa the blooms would go like 2m tall. So gorgeous. I wonder could I replant this pot plant in the garden her in YVR in a sunny spot and hope for it to bloom once more in the summer ? Or are they GM modified to die? Thanks.

    Won't bloom again until winter.

Hi Thanks, so you mean to say, if I plant it the garden in a pot with fresh soil and then in then take it before frost it may bloom again?

Better to keep it in a pot indoors the whole time - if it needs more room give it a bigger pot. And it will have to be given the needed treatment in order to flower again - if you search the web there will be plenty about making poinsettias bloom.

    I would not bother

If you do choose to go ahead - it sometimes works but the color is (in my experience) not as even (as in only a few leaves) and also may not be at the correct time

If you want to remember your former city - look in to the various plants we can grow here that look Mediterranean // tropical and also some that really are if you are keen gardener with proper indoor room

I recall a topic on here in 2019 I believe - use key word tropical

If one looks up comparable climate (and also adjusts for So Africa backward summer to our northern Pac NW season) to Cape T area — it’s not Vanc ... you’re more likely similar to gardens in Bay Area & further down to So Calif. — sounds wonderful!

yes just type in key word tropical and a couple of old threads come up

I also remember a contributor somewhere out in Sumas Mtn area who had a fantastic looking Mediterranean garden that looked great, survived the winters here, and also economized irrigation water in the summer season
