This Poaceae could be Glyceria maxima or Phalans arundinacea. However, this is purely guesswork on my part, the illustrations in my books were rather vague when compared with the photographs. All help greatly appreciated.

None of the two. This grass belongs to Andropogoneae tribe. Check the spikelets on the rachis. They should be in pairs. One is long-pedicellate and another short-pedicellate (Miscanthus) or sessile (Saccharum).

Andrey, I thank you so much for the ID. Earlier today I started going through the photographs on the 2 Italian sites but there are so many genera and sp. that I just gave it up. Thanks million. duffy
