I have a Japanese plum and a prune plum. Every year the prune plum drops half its fruit in late July through August. I noticed that the fruits have clear sap hanging of the bottoms and there are sometimes lumps on the fruits. I assumed in the past that the dropping fruit was normal, but this year there is a much higher percentage of lost fruit. Is this a pest issue or just a bad year? The Japanese plum (green gage?) has a LOT of fruit on it this year, but higher up in the tree are fruits that are showing purplish or brown rot. The fruits are still edible with the rotted area removed. It's hard to see if the fruits have been stung or not. Does anyone know if this is a wasp problem or other pest? This is the first year I've noticed this. Thanks for any help you can pass my way.
