This plant/small tree is located in Southern California in a theme park.It sits right outside a restaurant called The Rainforest Cafe. Tropical theme. Tucked under the big leaves, are baseball sized round clumps....I would call them fruit, but they look extremely layered, along the lines of an artichoke. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.....I want to get one for my garden. Thank you all in advance, Robert
Is there an office where you can inquire? The plant is in such poor condition and so hard to see against the others in this shot that you may not find out what it is here. Also, some very rare kinds are sometimes seen in such places. Most plant species are tropical, when you get into mild climate areas there are many thousands of kinds being cultivated.
I asked everyone that worked there that I could find. No one even knew who took care of the plants. I'm going to try to post another picture....a little more close up of the round clump area. I'm in San Diego, the plant was up in Buena Park. (about a 3 hour drive.....) I'll post again later today or tomorrow.....thanks for the help!
You could also print the picture and wave it in front of people at nurseries and gardens there. Maybe if you start making the rounds of such places you will see another example, with a name on it or available from somebody on hand.
That's the usual route I take, but the nurseries here, that deal in truly TROPICAL plants, are anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half away....I'm trying to cut down on my driving. (3 dollar a gallon gas isn't much fun) Most nurseries will say they deal in tropicals, but their idea of tropical is rather lame.
try this forum and see if you get any help: http://www.cloudforest.com/northwest/ as always Daniel if the link to another forum is not kosher please feel free to amend this post.
Thanks, all of you. I'll check out the other forum, but will also post another photo now. It's a little bit more of a closeup. I'm gonna keep my fingers crossed that someone will know what it is! Thanks again you all!
