I moved to my house five years ago. I had a small tree in the front yard that in the spring of the first year had beautiful purple hanging flowers. Soon after the tree died, but there were many seedlings. Two of the seedlings survived and grew rapidly. This year the trees bloomed for the first time, but the flowers are white. The branches have large thorns.
What kind of tree are they, and will the flowers ever turn purple?

Purple locust grafted onto black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) which sprouted from roots to produce what you are asking about now.

Or, as I just learned in your other post on the subject, Ron, it could be a seedling out of the purple one. Possible??

No, I think its rootstock sprouts. Seedlings of a purple one I would expect to have more color in the flowers. And I wouldn't expect a bunch of locust seedlings to come up in a thicket at at once right after the parent died.
