I'm guessing this is not native to Colombia. Can some one can identify it? Thanks.

Calceolaria, also commonly known as Fimacho, acka Zapatillos. I can't help you with the species (I can barely keep track of the Ecuadorian ones, most of which are endemics), but I can tell you it's most definitely a native.

Thanks so much Lorax. I'm surprised (because I've seen it in disturbed areas) but happy to see it's native. I'll start digging around Calceolaria on line.

It's a native pioneer of disturbed soil - and actually also an indicator of soil health. Calcies are one of the first plants I see when new roads have been broken, and they'll only grow where that broken soil isn't contaminated with oil or fuel.

Thanks again. That explains why it seemed to occupy disturbed soil.
