I have attached 2 pictures of a plant that I would like someone to ID for me. This was taken in Colombia, South America. One picture shows my 7 year old great niece is standing by this plant. Her mom says it's called Penitent, but I can not find that name on the Internet. And the other picture is a close up of the plant. It's a lovely plant and would be neat if I could find it and maybe get it to grow in Iowa.

I looked up Petrea and noticed that it's part of the Wisteria family. I'm not a plant person, so forgive me if I'm incorrect on this. My sister thinks it might be a type of Wisteria. I'm not sure why my niece called it Penitent, unless perhaps that is a spanish name for the plant. Thank you for your input on this.

I think Violetgreen is spot on with the Petrea. If petiole, puckered leaves in whorls of three (not sure all three characters can be made out on the photos), it can even be keyed out as Petrea bracteata.

Wisteria belongs to the pea family, while Petrea is in the verbena family.
