We received a gift of a plant. It stands about four feet from the floor. The largest leaf is about 18 inches long and about 8 inches wide at the widest point. The leaves are shiny and a strong deep green with black sections. See the pictures.
Please help as we want to know exactly how to care for it.

Did you shine those leaves up or is it natural? It is gorgeously shiny!

it looks like a type of calathea (maranta family). The leaves look like they have been sprayed with a leaf shine, you should wipe or rinse them off. This product is designed for cut greens in arrangments not for living plants. It usually causes the leaves to yellow after a while if they have been sprayed with the leaf shine.
