Please would anybody be able to help me identify this plant, its green leaf with a red vien where a couple have turned red but the leaves are very small and 2 inch long 5cm wide?

Any help would be really appreciated!

It looks like a very small tree but is a house plant i think/

    That's a poinsettia. Euphorbia pulcherrima.

It is a very old specimen, but growing in less-than-ideal conditions. I'd suspect it is wanting a dose of fertiliser, more rooting space, and (most important) more light.

Often mostly or entirely leafless at flowering time where able to be grown outdoors.

They're the very decorative Christmas potted plants (see Google search results), which some people feel bad about discarding afterwards and try to keep for another year. The Google search shows one as a garden shrub, but the tropical conditions where they grow are very different from where you live, and it's very difficult in an indoor home setting to duplicate the conditions required for it to get the nice red bracts and tiny yellow flowers ever again.

In fact, yours does look like one that someone else might have discarded (and I'm guessing that's so, since you are not aware of what it used to look like). I'd suggest you do the same. Maybe I'm being insensitive here - are they not as commonly available for very little money there as there are here at Christmas time? Even if not, you could grow something a lot more rewarding with a lot less work. People don't generally try holding on to those things more than once.
