(Darn - another one I didn't get pictures of the base leaves.) I want to call this one a Hemlock. My Floral of Alaska by J. P. Anderson lists Conioselinum lists two Hemlock-Parsley types. C. benthami which grows along the coast and Aleutian Islands looks just like this, but it does not have the long narrow leaves, (bractlets), in the flower head in any pictures I find on the Internet. The second listing is C. cnidifolium, Dawson Hemlock-Parsely. This one is described as having long narrow bracts in the flower heads and growing from Siberia across Alaska to Machenzie. I believe this might be my flower, but I can not verify that with any pictures on the Internet or books that I have. Could someone please verify this is the Dawson Hemlock-Parsely flower.
I'm having real trouble finding these names. Both appear in the Index Kewensis (with the suggestion that they've been supplanted by Selinum instead of Conioselinum), but neither of them can be found via a GRIN listing. I suspect working out the synonymy of the names used by Anderson will go a long way to resolving the identity.
For C. cnidifolium try Cnidium cnidifolium C. benthamii is listed as a synonym of C. chinense is 'Flora of Canada.' This is an eastern species, so may refer here to C. gmelinii, one of the synonyms of which is C. chinense var. pacificum.
To all that have given me suggestions on this flower, thank you. Sorry it took so long to post this to you folks, I thought I had done that. I found 3 sources that verified this is the C. cnidifolium, Dawson Hemlock-Parsely. It was your leads and suggestions that helped me nail this one down. Dickie Byrd
