Please help with plant ID

    Please help ID this plant. It came with house. I keep it in partial shade and it blooms late winter/early spring here is S. Calif. It forms black seeds with papery skins. Thanks!

    Well there you go I have the white one down the garden somewhere and did not even add 1+1. I can now try and get the purple one.

    Thank you so much for help with the IDing of this plant. I looked up info on Veltheimia bracteata and it matches my plant to a "T". This has been bugging me for years, since I get a number of folks commenting on it, followed by the usual question "what is it?" What a great website!
