    This thread asks 2 questions:
1 - What kind of plant is pictured ("plant-x")
2 - Is it possible this plant hybridized and bloomed as a moonflower vine within one season?

I purchased a vine plant (we'll call it plant X) at lowes last year that produced beautiful trumpet-shaped flowers all summer long. At the end of the summer, it produced a spiky-ball filled with seeds. I saved them.

This year, in march, I planted the "plant-X" seeds indoors, along with some moonflower & spanish flag-vine seeds I bought at Kmart. I transplanted the small plants in early June to some flower boxes and let all the vines run free on my balcony.

The Plant-X vines grew well and the leaves looked just like last year's plant (see photos). But there weren't any flowers until about a week ago (mid-August). Now that the "Plant-X" flowers are blooming THEY DO NOT LOOK LIKE LAST YEAR'S FLOWERS! (see photos)

The flower growing on the Plant-X vine looks an aweful lot like the moonflowers which bloomed several weeks ago. Does that make any sense? Can someone tell me what kind of plant I bought at Lowes (X) and if it could have gotten mixed up with the moonflowers this season?

    Thanks!
    Erik
