    I am only guessing here, But it looks like a member of the Populus family?

    No, definitely not a poplar!

    My first thought was Sapium sebiferum, but the seed pods are wrong for that

    You are right, I thought it was a Sapium s. at a second glance, and yes those seed pods continue to mystify...thankyou I will endeavour to correctly identify this tree.
