Steadily looking to identify less and less of a tree. Any ideas what these trees were when they were alive? We have less (on the left) & even less (on the right).

Doesn't ring any immediate bells - can you do a close-up of the twigs (and buds, if any)?

Attached is a close up of what looks like the only interesting bit of the twigs that are left on the tree in the left-hand photo. (well trees, there are actually two either identical, or very similar trees lying next to each other in the left hand photo, the bark and attached photo are of the near one, I hope). Any twigs from the stump on the right, look like they are long gone although the tree trunk is still lying in a laurel thicket.

!! Thanks, I am almost speechless, species and cultivar. Any guess as to what the one in the right hand photo may have been, my guess would be some form of Chamaecyparis.

Species and forma, anyway. Comes in green 'Filifera' cultivar and yellow ones, 'Filifera Aurea' being very common and often treelike where I live. So I have seen twigs with construction like ones shown in closeup many times. If you can't show similar details of from other carcasses here maybe can tell by comparing with other live trees on site.
