I took a cutting off of a plant that was at work. Ive had it for about six months and it is finally starting to form new growth. I dont have a clue what this is. Could anyone help me?
to root a zz, i think you need to remove the leaves and put the individual leaves in the soil so they form roots/caudex/whatever you call its root system. just planting the stem, i don't think it'll form any roots. i could be wrong though and you may be able to root it as you are attempting to. it's an aroid - and a most unusual one at that due to the ability to use the leaves to grow new plants.
Leaves of Zamioculcus zamiifolia placed on very sandy soil can grow a new plant from the bulblet. The bulblet is formed at the junction of the petiole and the stem. The petiole is the short support for the leaf while the stem is the central axis of the plant. You can learn more about the species here: http://www.exoticrainforest.com/Zamioculcas zamiifolia pc.html A bulblet is essentially a newly formed stem which will grow roots.
Apologies, the correct spelling is Zamioculcas zamiifolia. I someimes screw up and spell Zamioculcas with a "u". Steve
