I believe that they are Echinopsis hybrids.... enjoy those spectacular albeit short lived blooms!

Echinopsis yes (but not necessarily hybrids). But what where they doing in Arizona? Were they dumped, potted plants, or were they growing in the ground?

According to my friend who brought them to Vegas, these cacti were not potted nor were they removed from the ground. She was driving and found them scattered loose along the highway. I have written her an e-mail to gather more details. Thank you for your reply.

    Echinopsis subdenudata, I believe.

Thank you, Rosemarie. The bloom lasted less than 24 hours. However, there are multiple buds and I'm wondering if or when they will flower.

That is what I thought too, but Echinopsis look so similar that I did not dare to say it. But you are probably right.

The remaining buds will probably develop into flowers within the next months, but do not be surprised if they drop, it happens.

Interesting little cacti... Hopefully, we will get another chance to admire the translucent bloom. Thanks again, Rosemarie.

Rosemarie - my Echinopsis Subdenudata just opened four blooms this evening. I will post new pictures in the morning. I can't believe how beautiful the blooms are and how lovely they smell.

You're welcome, sskandros. Glad to help! I have a bud coming on mine. I will have to remember to take a whiff, as I didn't know they had a fragrance until after the last time it bloomed. :) Looking forward to your upcoming pix!

Wow! They look fabulous! I imagine the fragrance of four together would be quite the smell-o-rama! Thanks for showing us! :)

It was great while it lasted. I'm just curious whether my cross pollinating worked. I took a soft brush and pollinated back and forth between the flowers. I would love to know if these blooms produce seeds. The two previous blooms just withered up and fell over - so sad... I wish the blooms lasted longer.
