I can't figure out what kind of plant this is. I would love to find out how to take care of it before the lovely thing dies on me.

Dracaena marginata... and if you want to restart more, take cuttings (15-25 cm)and plant them in fresh potting soil. Try not to over water as it will rot... tends to prefer dry .....between watering, and mild fertilizing..... good luck... it looks like it is ok!

I'm just having the hardest time with it. I lost about 20-25 leaves this last week. I just won't want to over or under water and I would love to find out what is making it look quite yellow and making the leaves die back. Thank you for the indentifcation though.

how long have you had it? when was the last time it was repotted? what kind of soil is it in? are there drainage holes in the container? what kind of sunlight is it getting? have you recently moved it to a new location? do you use water straight from the tap? is your water treated to 'soften' it?

have you looked closely at it to see if there are any bugs on the tree? look for white 'cottony' fluff where the leaves connect to the trunk and look for webs on the leaves - the webs will not quite look like normal spider webs, they'll just be lines draped back/forth rather than the typical box-type pattern.

The pot to me looks too big, better to keep the roots "snug" in the pot and not use so much soil that stays wet which Dracaena's don't like.
Direct sun can also yellow the leaves, it will do better behind a sheer curtain, or moved where it will receive bright indirect light.
