Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum. I joined this forum because of the plant i just purchased. I thought it would go perfect inside my apartment but ill be the first to admit that i don't know much about taking care of a plant other than the cactus and aloe plant i had several years ago. My three questions are: First: What type of plant is this? Second: what type of care do i need for it? Third: After a bad trip on my truck to my apt, it suffered with the wind blowing on it and caused it to split the leaves. Its now turning yellow and some leaves are dying. How do i save this plant from dying because i really like it?
I just did a search for that name and it seems that's exactly what it is. thanks! I'm going to keep searching online for this but if anyone has the answers for my last two questions, I really would appreciate it.
it should be in a fast draining soil - like cactus mix. the pot it's in should have drainage holes in the bottom. best type of pot is unglazed clay - you can put it inside of a larger; more decorative container to hide the uglier container. water thoroughly only when the soil is dry down a few inches (that's a large pot). check the soil and if it's still moist, wait a few days and check again - water if needed or check again in another day or so. sunlight should be bright, indirect light. they like warmer temps, so don't put it too close to a door where it will be drafty (or by an a/c vent when the a/c is on). the normal growth pattern is the lowest leaves will die off as newer growth appears at the top. from what i can see in the pic, the yellowed leaves are at the bottom and i wouldn't worry about the plant being on it's last legs. the stress of going outside into the colder temps and then to the new environment just stressed it a bit and the leaves are dieing off sooner than they would have without that stress. as for stress, let it be for a week or so before you do anything. that includes watering it. once it's situated, you can start it on a good routine.
