Please help identify

    I pass this plant every morning on my way to work. It is in somebody's front yard. The picture is horrible because I took it with my cell phone camera (it is the only thing I have on my way to work).
    It looks like red licorice is hanging off of it!

    Looks like something red... probably a red tree... but I'm not sure!!! :)

    Sorry, my real tip is: Calomeria amaranthoides...

    Looks artificial to me . . . red plastic string, tied on with white ribbons.

    Hmmm... Amarathus caudatus is usually a smaller, annual plant... Isn't it an Acalypha? A. hispida? The flowers are a bit different, but we can't see the flowers... :(

    Possibly but it would have to be brought into a greenhouse in Winter for it
    to survive from year to year.
