I really need help identifying my indoor bonsai, It was bought for me as a present last year no tag or id on it. I have several outdoor specimens but only this indoor. I don't know how to place a picture of it though , so can you help with that first. I have click manage attachments and uploaded the picture, maybe thats it. ...I would be very grateful for your help. :). AH just previewed post . There he is. 53cm tall a standard garden centre is place of purchase. Forgot to mention it hasn't flowered so I don't think it has a flower:(
I was thinking along the lines of privet but this does not survive below 10 degrees celsius, I thought all ligustrum were far hardier than that.
No flower, not hardy. I thought it was privet but them 2 facts have changed my mind. But maybe you are right
I thought privet too. Think of all the privet hedges everywhere in the U.K. surviving outside whatever the winter. With temperatures well below freezing. http://images.google.com/images?hl=...nsai&btnG=Search+images&aq=f&oq=&aqi=&start=0 Bonsais are a tree, kept artificially small. They are not houseplants and should be kept outdoors. ( Unless a tropical sp)
Ok.Thanks very much. It does look Very similar to some of the bonsai in them pictures Silver surfer. I think that maybe the info with the tree was not for that tree, its survived well indoors till now so might keep it in.Look forward to seeing a flower or 2 . Cheers guys you've been very helpful;)
Sorry I think I posted the wrong link. Privet hedges that are popular in the UK are Ligustrum ovalifolium. http://images.google.co.uk/images?h...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBwQsAQwAA http://images.google.com/images?hl=... ovalifolium bonsai&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi By the way, the flowers smell disgusting. They always remind me of cat pee! To keep it neat and small , bonsaiish, you must keep trimming it, so with any luck will never get the flowers, as they are at the end of the shoots!
