    Hello,
Can someone help me identify this plant - pic attached. My cat found a way up to it and ate a large part of a leaf. I'm concerned it's poisonous and can't find it online, so need the name.
Thanks for any help you can offer!

Looks like an aroid to me.
Members of this family (Araceae) are generally toxic, so advise separation between cat and plant.

When you get an ID on this plant check it out on this site "Toxic and Non toxic plants". It's an ASPCA Toxic plant for animals site. Many house plants are toxic to Pets to one degree or another..

Thank you for your help! Couldn't positively ID it, but looks like it could fit into that family...I think. Hope it can live in the garage till I can get it down to my mom. Kitty seems to be doing okay! Will tell vet "possibly Araceae" if we have to go in.
Will hold onto ASPCA site as well!
All plants are going. Not worth it - lost a cat last year to kidney tumor. Still wonder if it wasn't that palm he was chewing on. Got all plants out except two that are up high where I thought it impossible for this kitty to reach. NO MORE!
Thanks again. Have a good night.

Try bitter apple spray it will work no need to move the plant. Get some cat grass for kitty

Probably a light starved Strelitzia nicolai.

I looked at "Strelitzia Nicolai". This one is an indoor plant, or it was sold as one. And it doesn't bloom (and it's in a really bright room).
Bitter apple won't hurt the plant? Too risky anyway...if it's poisonous. He could get to it again. Out it goes...I'll give it to my mom. She'll love it.

You might consider giving your cat access to grass. My new rescue cat, who is kept indoors after my much loved Maine Coon was taken by a wild animal, started to nibble my house plants. I now give him grass from the garden and he gets very excited when he sees it. It seems to fill a nutritional need as without it his eyes look a little sore. I also grow pots of grass indoors for him.
    Just a thought.

Okay! Makes sense, I'll grow some grass for him inside. Do you do it year round?

Yes, I live on the Sunshine Coast of BC so have grass in sheltered areas out doors for most of the year and usually pick him some each day. Year round outdoor grass is probably not possible in Prescott. I have seen grass seed kits for sale in pet stores. Uncoated grass seed may be hard to get at seed suppliers at this time of the year.

Tom really craves his daily grass and it does seem to be important to his health.

    Glad your cat is ok.

Okay, I'll find a kit! I've seen some organic cat grass kits...somewhere. :) Thanks! April
