I have only seen this evergreen tree in one other location in Vancouver, and it was ordered cut down; on this property, the Lutheran Church on 41st ave btwn Cambie and Main, there are at least 9 of them! They grow in such whimsical shapes, and have such a rich dark green colour! I have attached 3 photos that I hope will help. Thank you! july 10 081.jpg

One of my favorite trees. Both straight green or the golden. Planted and transplanted them at our last Beaverton home, and the present.

The one that was cut down - could you say where it was? If it was in Straley's Trees of Vancouver, I'd like to make a note in my book. There's one large one mentioned, and several small ones (in 1992). Thanks.

Wendy, the tree that was ordered cut down, was in the 'Courtyard Garden', also known as the 'Japanese Garden', enclosed within the walls of GF Strong Rehab Center.

I am curious about who and why the tree was 'ordered' cut down?

    Paul,
We all know who, and none of us know why!
You would have to contact the operations director of GF Strong Rehab Center and ask.
    Shelley.

Not counting the dozen of them at the lane! Just in case anyone wants to go looking for them, Shelley has confirmed that the church is the Latter Day Saints, at 309 West 41st Ave.

The ones on 41st have very few cones (Shelley's photo shows one), but a few of them on the lane have a lot of cones. The third photo here shows old and new cones. I'd have thought the extra heat from the parking lot and lane would have made the difference, but some of those trees at the lane seemed to have no cones, so there's that theory shot.
