Aloha bonjour Please may I have help in identifying this Maple I have this small tree about 3-4 m in height in a planted bed with no tag it has a distinct "D" shape to the samara? it has small minute hairs along the midrib and tufts at each acid of midrib and secondary veins Is it Acer sacharum? (20centime = 20mm) Thank you Pierrot
Hi Pierrot, It looks like a sycamore maple Acer pseudoplatanus. The samaras hang on dangling stems, so maybe that's what you've got with some samaras missing. Don't think it's native there though.
Here's a photo from a couple of days ago, if it helps. Don't worry to much about the leaf shape, they're very variable. -E
Merci Emery the leaves were all over the spectrum with this sample! the D shape to the samara was familiar but I had a blanc brain pierrot
Yep, Acer pseudoplatanus. The seeds look to be unfilled, presumably due to lack of cross-pollination on a lone tree distant from suitable pollen supply.
